Fay is here to Stay…

(this is our parking lot)
I must admit that I am kind of enjoying the storm watching. Mother Nature is such an incredible force to be reckoned with. I mean we think our lives are ruled by technology, but once in a while, when you get to see the strength of nature first hand, you know who really rules the world. She brings life, bears fruit and her harvest keeps us alive, but she is also capable of enormous destruction. Not to say that we are really experiencing anything too too terrible. We still have power and we have lots of food – mac n’ cheese, ice cream, chips, wine, etc. But our streets are flooded, so we aren’t going anywhere. The wind is still whipping and it is still raining. But we are content and probably by tomorrow in a severe bout of cabin fever!

Trust me you WILL have cabin fever tomorrow! I am so glad you are up high. It doesn’t take much to flood Florida does it??? Stay safe and dry you two!
kat - August 21, 2008 at 3:58 pm
That is some nutting looking rain but there is something nice about being safe & sound inside watching a storm outside. Stay safe!
Ivy - August 21, 2008 at 4:09 pm
Glad to hear that everything is okay. I am really scared of these storms. Keep safe and keep us posted.
Jeni - August 21, 2008 at 4:10 pm
I remember watching Hurricane Fran years ago whip her wild winds outside until the power finally went out and then it was just pitch black everywhere and all you could do was listen. Peacefully eerie. Stay safe and enjoy quality time with your loved one!
Brenda - August 21, 2008 at 4:30 pm
Hopefully, Fay will move and not just off shore and then back onto shore. Stay safe and dry. (We are on 42+ days of over 100 degrees–serious drought and scorching heat–send Fay our way.)

so even if Fusion IS open…you may be stuck
Mallika - August 21, 2008 at 4:45 pm
Do you have enough DvDs? You newly weds can just snuggle up on the couch. Fay is the perfect reason!
Bellini Valli - August 21, 2008 at 5:27 pm
It must be raining simultaneously all around the worl. We are having a torrential downpour as we speak here in the “sunny” Okanagan. Stay dry…cabin fever means you can get a lot done indoors:D
Ben - August 21, 2008 at 5:50 pm
It seems like the storm is dying. But you still got a lot of rain! I love storms, too. They are so romantic. LOL I hope you and Roberto are OK. Keep inside with a good book. That will help with the cabin fever
Teresa - August 21, 2008 at 5:51 pm
Oh Jenn. Please stay safe. Believe it or not here in El Paso we’ve gone through a few flooding bouts again this year and it’s no fun. My uncle Joe lived in Miami Beach until he passed away a couple of years ago and it was a constant struggle trying to stay in communication with him making sure he was safe. Of ourse he was very stubborn and would not evacuate. So please take care of yourself and Roberto. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Nikki - August 21, 2008 at 6:07 pm
Like I told Judy, y’all be safe down there.
You’ve got plenty of food? Good. I think Roberto likes you a little bit, so he won’t mind staying inside with you
melissa - August 21, 2008 at 6:16 pm
My sister is down there in the same boat with you. So to speak. The only bad part for her was that they forgot they left their pc on the other night when it was storming very badly and it fried their motherboard.
Loved your mac n cheese down there below. Stay dry and cozy and safe, Jenn!
maybelles mom (feeding maybelle) - August 21, 2008 at 6:40 pm
oh, do stay safe. i thought our you when i watched the news this morning.
Abigail - August 21, 2008 at 7:01 pm
I know this is probably counterintuitive, but man, that makes me miss Florida! (I grew up in Orlando.) We do have typhoons here in Japan, so that’s kind of a similar thing, but when I saw the houses in your photos it made me nostalgic for that kind of old Florida architecture!
Aggie - August 21, 2008 at 7:16 pm
I have cabin fever already! Being home with Fay and 2 kids under 4 will surely give it to you! : )
Take care of yourselves up there in St. Auggie!
Peter G - August 21, 2008 at 10:51 pm
Glad to see that you and Roberto are doing fine Jenn…
Marie - August 22, 2008 at 12:51 am
Sounds like you’re doing ok, at least your power is still on, thank goodness. I really get cabin fever whenever the power goes out here. Hopefully the water will go down on your streets. I feel bad for the people whose homes are so flooded!
kat - August 22, 2008 at 1:18 am
I’m glad that you just had a little flooding, the images on the news are wild! Take care and be safe!
Alex - August 22, 2008 at 4:29 am
And to think I was moaning about a little bit of rain. Although we did go out last night to pick some wild fruit and we were about as far from home as we were going to get the sky opened and dumped about three weeks’ worth of rain onto us. Hope the cabin fever doesn’t bite too hard!
Natashya - August 22, 2008 at 7:51 am
I am glad you are safe and warm. It is hard to get a perspective from here as much of what we see on tv is “news porn”.
I managed to post pics ok this morning on the forum so don’t worry about my cries for help.
Enjoy your snuggle time with Roberto.
Hot Garlic - August 22, 2008 at 8:10 am
Oh wow! Thanks for the pics and for keeping us updated! Just relax and enjoy your time off I say!
jen of a2eatwrite - August 22, 2008 at 8:48 am
I’m so glad you’re okay! Have you read Carl Haiassen’s Stormy Weather? It’s an interesting take on Florida hurricanes via his usual humor-craziness.
Donald - August 22, 2008 at 9:04 am
Yeah, we’ve been keeping abreast of what is going on down there with you guys and Fay.
She’s a really slow mover – kinda stagnant even.
We’ll if you all are done with her now, please send her to the ATL. We need rain!!!
Patsyk - August 22, 2008 at 9:35 am
Hope the rain stops soon for you – before the cabin fever sets in!
kittie - August 22, 2008 at 9:45 am
Glad you’re doing ok… and have essentials of mac and cheese and wine!!
Amazing pics. And you’re right, it always feels significant being put back in our place by mother nature!
dawn - August 22, 2008 at 10:35 am
Well good to read that your spirits are still high. Flooding is bad, but I’m glad you didn’t get more than that.
You still have power, wine, mac & cheese; now you can glance out the window at the changing times of mother nature while watching some old time movies.
Judy - August 22, 2008 at 10:53 am
Hey Jenn-I have an award for you. Stop by and get it!
Deborah - August 22, 2008 at 1:31 pm
I hope everything is still going well! I’ve always been one that is in awe of Mother Nature. I think I would enjoy watching evrything, but I’d probably be quite scared at the same time!
The Leftover Queen - August 22, 2008 at 2:40 pm
Thanks Again Everyone!
Tom Aarons - August 24, 2008 at 10:30 am
This is amazing, Jenn. Blogging from inside a hurricane! Take care, be safe, and good luck with any cleaning up that needs doing.
Dragon - August 24, 2008 at 10:20 pm
I hope you are safe and sound Jen. Hold on tight!
Lo (Burp!) - August 25, 2008 at 1:19 pm
Yikes! So glad that you’re hanging on and staying safe. We’ll be keeping you in mind as the storm moves through!
