How Does Your Garden Grow?
I am excited to see growing things popping up everywhere! It is amazing to be seeing the beginnings of the fruits of our labors thus far!

From the top, left to right: apricot tree, chestnut tree, yellow raspberry bush, wild strawberries, currants
Bottom, right to left: elderberry bush, Roberto planting the first potato, (top)potato and bean field (75 feet of each), (bottom)blueberry flowers, lettuces, Jenn playing in the trenches
And the peeps? Growing by leaps and bounds in just their first week of life! We already had to upgrade their living quarters!

Top, from left to right: Peeps new digs, peeps at one week old, (top) peeps, (bottom) Rhode Island Red eating her first mosquito – GOOD GIRL!
Bottom, from left to right: Not our chicks, but our resident birds bundles of fluffy joy, Arwen – the fastest developer, she may be a he, and if so shall be re-named Elrond, (top) a Barred Rock at one week, (bottom)Penguino a Silver Laced Wyandotte at one week, a Rhode Island Red looking pretty!
Hope everyone has a great weekend doing whatever you love to do best!

Chickens AND a giant garden? Color me jealous! Are the chickens only for eggs or will you be doing some butchering too?
I’ll be very interested to read more about raising the chickens, something I wish I could do here in the city.

A fine-looking garden it is. Good luck.
In Maine things are just now taking hold. Think good thoughts for the 9 artichoke plants I planted.
Nice blog.

I haven’t sold the hubby on getting chicks yet – we have a very small yard. I recently have been fortunate to buy eggs from my daughter’s friend, whose family lives on a farm….the next best thing!

Leave it to you to go all Lord of the Rings on us.
Everything is looking fan-tastic… When do the tours start? And tastings? ha ha

Oh~ I love it, love it, LOVE IT!!! You GO!! I just pulled out the peas, and all of the first lettuce, cilantro and parsley has bolted like a horse! Arrrgh! I need to borrow about 4 of those peeps…I’ve got a hen that’s gone broody and she needs babies! LOL! She won’t be happy until I find her some or give her the cold bath treatment. Oy… I’d rather find her some young chicklets. She’d be ever so much happier. The rhubarb is doing ever so fine…just has be to left alone for a year, like the asparagus. Darn it! The chard is doing wonderfully finally…we’re finally getting a bit of heat here in the west. Our season is off by about 4 weeks this year. Oh well. Mother Nature got up on the wrong side of the bed, what can I say? Enjoy yours…looks lovely!!

My garden grows organically and hopefully sweetly (smile).
It’s so exciting to see the first little leaves and stems sprout out of the garden. I’m glad you guys are having fun, and I hope your harvest is bountiful.

BABIES! i love yourbabies. and am so glad you take such good care of them. you know i brag (a lot) about my neighbors chickens (and we don’t live on famrmland) but they have the most beautiful chickens & roosters. anyway, they roam freely about the neighborhood during the day. yesterday, they walked over to the other neighbors house where there was a grad party–the chickens just walked right in. it was so funny, so….them. you know?

your little peeps are so darned cute!
Lori - June 16, 2010 at 6:44 pm
I just love garden posts from other parts of the country. Of course, we have beans and potatoes here, but no apricot or chestnut trees. It’s so great to see everyone taking advantage of their local specialties.

The peeps are really looking good! My father also have hens in the garden and he uses the manure of the hens for fertilizers. It really works in our veggies!
