Stir, Laugh, Repeat
I am featuring Martha’s blog this week, as a way to set you all up for another fantastic giveaway we will be doing on Foodieblogroll.com. Martha has a book (same title as her blog) and we will be giving away 4 copies over the month of June (one per week). The recipes in in her book Stir, Laugh, Repeat are all tested by 24 “Food Testers”. They would rate each dish from 1-10 and only those scoring at least an 8 made it to the book. Her blog is a “holding place” for all the recipes in her 2nd book Stir, Laugh, Repeat… Again.

David Hall: Book The Cook

David has launched a new blog, and with it a new vision. His love for simple and honest food has inspired him to teach people about food through educational food demonstrations. His blog is another outlet for teaching. I am not sure if that is his sole purpose, but I know I learn a lot whenever I visit! David is also another big promoter of eating locally and seasonally, and, his latest post on this subject is a slightly different look at eating seasonally, and very well thought out.

Hip Organic Mama
This is a totally awesome blog, that I can see myself visiting a lot at a later point in my life. It is written by Annie who is a mother to four healthy children. She has spent years researching all the contradictory information out there about controversies that impact our health, our food, and our planet and decipher that information into easy steps we can take to make a difference. Her blog is a wealth of information for anyone who has an interest in knowing where their food comes from, how to eat healthy on a budget, or healthy family friendly recipes.

Confessions of a Tart
Irene started this blog as a way to motivate herself to live up to a New Year’s Resolution in 2008 to eat more healthy and local foods. She has always loved baking, and then from baking she also discovered a love for cooking, when she got married – she needed to feed her new husband more than challah bread and chocolate chip cookies, right? Irene admires cooks and chefs that make complicated and intricate recipes, but she loves cooking simple meals filled with comfort, laughter and love. She says on her blog: “ The most satisfying thing about blogging has been meeting all the impossibly kind, brilliant, generous people who are part of the food community. If you are reading this blog and are feeling friendly, drop me a line and say hello. I would love to hear from you!”
So please be sure to drop her a line!

Give Recipe

I love the philosophy behind this blog. Zerrin, the author is from Turkey and she believes that you can learn a lot about a person’s character by what they eat. Her blog mainly focuses on Turkish cuisine (one of my favorites) and she feels that you can multiply your happiness by sharing. So she uses her blog to share her recipes with everyone, the world over. She has everything from appetizers, mains, desserts and even jams, drinks and pastries.

That’s it for this week! I hope you enjoyed this week’s FFF. Remember, if you would like to see a blog featured here, who is part of the FBR please visit the forum and nominate them.

Sara’s Kitchen
I have been following Sara’s blog for quite a while, and it is one of those blogs that I can’t believe I haven’t featured before. Her blog is all about creating new recipes, and also trying recipes from her 60+ cookbooks. There is something yummy on this blog for everyone! Sara is also a huge Michael Chiarello fan (I am too!), and actually got to meet him! Her dishes always look so fresh and colorful and her photography is drool worthy!

Thai Cooking with Jam
Jam was born in Bangkok, Thailand and after graduating from University worked as an editor for an English Magazine in Thailand. She then moved to Austin, TX to continue her studies by getting a masters in Communication studies from the University of Texas at Austin . It was in Austin that she began cooking Thai food for people, and discovered her passion for cooking and teaching – and let me tell you, she is good! Her food all looks delicious and her photos are so warm and inviting. Jam is living the good life in Austin, and you can join her on her blog!

eCurry
This is a blog that has evolved – it started off as a way for Soma, the author to share the recipes she cooks up for her lovely family, into a family run blog, with all members actively involved! The children are involved as inspiration and food critics and even have a budding interest in photography, and her husband helps with photography and also teams up with Soma to cook meals together! It really is a beautiful blog, with lots of colorful photos and food!

The Spiced Life
This blog is written by Laura, a SAHM who has always loved to cook, but discovered a passion for baking after she became a mom! She says that nothing expresses love better than a plate of fresh baked cookies. She loves cuisines with a lot of spice, like Mexico, SE Asia and India. You can find these recipes as well as a variety of lovely baked goods on this blog!

The Food Addicts
This blog is written by Krissy & Daniel who love to cook and eat. Daniel is a professionally trained chef, and Krissy just loves to cook! They love to share their experiences with food, both written and visual and also do reviews of restaurants in the LA area where they are based.

That’s it for this week! I hope you enjoyed this week’s FFF. Remember, if you would like to see a blog featured here, who is part of the FBR please visit the forum and nominate them.

Cherrapeño
Cherrapeño is a cross between a jalapeño and a cherry pepper. This UK blogger loves to cook with both chilies and chocolate. Everyone who reads my blog knows I am a big fan of ice cream, and lots of people ask me about making ice cream without a machine. Well, you can find a great recipe on this blog –
Chocolate, Banana and Baileys Ice Cream. Not only is the ice cream recipe there, but you can also learn how to make beautiful chocolate cups to serve it in! I am also really wanting to try her awesome Kulfi (Indian ice cream) recipe. Perfect for summer!

Eat and Dust
Speaking of Indian treats, here is one of the neatest blogs I have come across in a while. Pamela is a Scottish woman who moved to India with her husband and children 4 years ago. She says she always spent her life cooking, eating and thinking about food, but realized that in India she is kind of a lightweight. She says that India “is a country that  loves, cherishes and honours its food with a passion that is humbling.” In her quest to learn more about the food culture of India, she has also become a recipe hunter looking for “ recipes the Brits left behind and which have been lovingly preserved, tweaked and enthusiastically eaten by generations of Indians.  Among others I’ve found porridge in Darjeeling,  jam-making in Kashmir, smoked fish in the Himalayas and pasties in Bangalore.  I’m constantly on the lookout for British food trails – any suggestions will be eagerly explored.” Incidentally it is on this blog I first learned about Kulfi!

Angel in the Kitchen
I really like this blog because it is really down to earth, despite the title! Although she does have a disclaimer about the whole “angel” bit anyway! Like a lot of us, she started her blog as a way to give herself a sense of purpose in the kitchen, and also give her an excuse to talk about food all the time! I can totally relate! Need a great baked beans recipe for summer picnics and BBQs? Well check out her yummy looking recipe for baked beans that even people who don’t like baked beans will like. I am already a huge fan of these humble beans myself, and I am certainly going to try her recipe!

Laura’s Best Recipes
Laura grew up in the wine country of California, meaning she basically grew up around good and healthy food. She and her family now call the mountains of Colorado their home, and since they live tucked away, she always goes all out to prepare a meal for friends and family, making their drive well worth it. I love these Vietnamese Spring Rolls or how about this savory Mango Soup. Both look like great summer recipes and well worth the drive to Laura’s place! Luckily we are only a click away!

Yumeezy
Here is another great blog full of wonderful sweet treats. Rania, the author of the blog says: “ I am not a pro just an enthusiastic amateur who’s not too shabby at creating yumeezy eats.”
I love the looks of her Lemon Bar Cupcakes and you can check out a great reviews of some of the products that Foodbuzz has been giving out to Featured Publishers for sampling. I can’t wait to get a chance to try some products too one day!

Food on the Dole
We are all concerned about the economic times and looking for ways to pinch our pennies and stretch our food budget to make it last. However, I have yet to find a blog that is as dedicated to doing this in style and using economic hardship as a life changing experience like Hugh over at Food on the Dole. His blog focuses on stretching the food larder in fun and nutritious ways – like shopping at farmers markets, making things that you generally buy rather than make, like yogurt, pickles and pasta. This is an inspirational and well written blog!

Cafe Chocolada
Sometimes photos of food can really get your taste buds working. If a food photo is bright and colorful enough, you can almost imagine tasting it. This is the case with this blog. Everything just looks so picture perfect. I have never tried (or heard of) Lika Pie (a cake that is from the own of Lika in Croatia) but wow, I should could go for a slice right now, based on the gorgeous photo and look at this yummy Spicy Pizza.

Cafe Liz
Liz blogs from Tel Aviv and although she is not vegetarian, her kitchen is, so everything she creates in her kitchen is vegetarian and kosher. She gets excited by outdoor markets, cooking stores and cute dishes. Check out this interesting veggie salad bathed in buttermilk or how about this beautiful purple and green spring frittata !

My New 30
This is a great blog that does a wonderful job of displaying southern living both in regard to food and gardening. I really love all the gardening tips, being a budding gardener myself. I love her natural home remedies for getting rid of aphids. But if gardening is not your thing, check out her recipes for Southern Red Beans and Rice !

The Vanilla Bean
This is a delicious blog full of yummy new recipes. Alanna, the author loves to bake, and her love for baking really comes out in her very first post about making red velvet cupcakes which was very fun to read and really allows you to see her personality – she definitely has fun in the kitchen. If you prefer more savory recipes, her latest post Thai Green Curry Shrimp looks pretty good! A nice dish for summer!

Finest Foodies Friday – May 1, 2008

Happy May Day to everyone out in the Blogosphere! Hope you all have a good one! In the spirit of this time of the year, Roberto and I have added two new additions to our porch garden – a Celestial Fig tree, which is a white fig (can’t wait to see them!) that already has several figs starting to emerge and a Blueberry bush that is heavy with berries! We are seeing our first crop of ruby red strawberries, and banana peppers, and our tomato plants are getting loaded with tomatoes. We are also enjoying our mini herb garden – basil, oregano, cilantro, lemon balm, mint and chives. So I hope everyone enjoys a beautiful weekend!

Also as a reminder, this month’s Royal Foodie Joust is coming to an end, in terms of entries, however, the voting will begin today, so please don’t forget to come on over the The Foodie Blogroll/Leftover Queen Forum to cast the vote for your favorite entry (we have 3 categories to win in now!).

Now, the reason we are all here! Finest Foodies Friday!

Chef Tess Bakeresse
As many of you who read my blog know, over my years of blogging, I have developed a passion for baking bread. I love learning new recipes for quick and easy breads that don’t require a lot of kneading. However recently I have kind of grown to not even mind that too much. So when I come across a blog that focuses on bread, I always have to browse. But it is rare that I come across a blog with such beautiful bread – and trust me, you have to visit to see what I am talking about.

Cinnamon Spice and Everything Nice
This is a blog that is dedicated to mostly Italian American comfort foods! Now that is my kind of blog! Reeni blogs and cooks alongside her trusty assistant, Moon, the original Kitchen Cat. I am currently drooling over Dreamy Creamy Tuscan Soup and her Tomato and Onion White Pizza !

My Halal Kitchen
I must admit that I don’t know much about Halal. I have seen the word often when shopping in large outdoor markets like Boston and New York City. But I have learned quite a bit about it on this blog. I was attracted to this blog mainly because the dishes on it mostly focus on fresh ingredients, cooking from scratch and avoiding processed foods. So I would say that if you enjoy food s based on these principles, you will enjoy the recipes on this blog, whether you eat Halal or not.

Dairy Free Tried and True
A lot of us have some kind of food allergies or intolerance to deal with. I always marvel at food bloggers who are parents to children that have severe food allergies. For some of them, this is what spurred their interests in the culinary arts, for others, a new challenge to overcome in the kitchen. Either way, I find that over and over again, you can eat good and tasty food even when someone in your household deals with this issue. If you need some dairy free recipes, or just plain ‘ol kid friendly food, this is a great blog to check out.

The Cocoa Factor
Well two of my favorite things to read about are obviously food and dogs. So when I stumbled upon The Cocoa Factor, which is named after the author, Kerry’s dog Cocoa, I knew I wanted to read more. She has lots of nice recipes that feature mains, desserts and everything in between.

Bake and Destroy

Bake and Destroy has a new website! If you weren’t familiar with Natalie’s old blog, then you certainly want to acquaint yourself with her new one! She is an amazing baker creating unique and delicious cupcakes, does tutorials on DIY cupcake toppers (you gotta see ‘em to believe ‘em), has her own store of Bake and Destroy products. She is also way into aprons, and is always searching for The Next Great Apron. So there are many reasons to check this lady out! Here is a great quote from her about page: “My mom and my bosses at the bakery taught me a lot about the science of baking, but punk rock taught me to make it my own …The world is your cupcake, dudes! So make it rad.”

Cupcakes Take the Cake
Since we are on the subject of cupcakes, we have to talk about the ladies at Cupcakes Take the Cake. Here you will find everything and anything you ever wanted to know about cupcakes. It is the perfect site for all things cupcake related – recipes, design, cupcake events – like socials, and TV programs, and also where to get some of the best cupcakes, even a list of cupcake mail order! This is a blog for everyone that loves cupcakes! So go see these ladies and they will point you in the right direction for all your cupcake needs!

Gina’s Weight Watcher Recipes
Let’s transition a bit from cupcakes to healthy eating! I wanted to feature Gina’s blog today because Spring is now in full swing, which means that many of us are starting to think towards those warm days of summer, beaches, and swimsuits! With a blog like Gina’s you can enjoy delicious and flavorful food, while still watching your caloric and fat intake – it is like the best of both worlds, and you can bet, I will be scouring her blog for meal ideas in the coming weeks! Like this Portuguese Seafood Stew and these “Lighter” Buffalo Wings !

Bread + Butter
This blog is written by a filmmaker and entrepreneur, who enjoys the simple things in life. There are so many yummy recipes on this blog that it is hard to find something that I don’t want to make. Not only that, but the photography is so bright and crisp that it really adds to making the food really come to life. I really enjoyed her recent post about Gigi’s Farmers Market. Jenn is fairly new to the blogging world, but we are glad to have her in our community!

GirliChef
Heather’s blog is one that I have just recently started reading. Not only is she an avid cook but she is also a bookworm! For me, those are two of my greatest passions as well! She loves to explore the world taste by taste and morsel by morsel! I really enjoyed her recent posts about making root beer and root beer floats with her son and about watching her husband cook.
So please stop by and say hi! This is one blog where you will feel at home!

Restless Chipotle
I am a fan of these delicious and smoky peppers, and sometimes all it takes is a name for me to be intrigued by a blog. But what I found when I started poking around this blog, was lots of delicious looking recipes. This blogger really has an affinity for the flavors of the Southwest, (if you couldn’t tell by the name of the blog) and therefore uses a lot of those flavors in such interesting ways, like these Creamy Cumin and Dark Chocolate Truffles. As the author warns, be prepared to drool.

Spinach Tiger
This blog is written by Angela, who won the Royal Foodie Joust a few months ago, and picked some ingredients that really made people think and come up with some of the most creative recipes in a Joust competition yet! Her blog is full of delicious yet approachable dishes. Her pasta dishes are especially good – like this Ravioli, Orange Basil Browned Basil Butter and Pine nuts!

…and the eggs
is a catchall phrase meaning “and everything”, with a nod toward the love of food. This blog is written by a fellow Floridian, and features lots of restaurant reviews, and lots of baking, most recently Nut Rolls something I haven’t seen or heard about in years. My family used to enjoy nut rolls every year at Christmas time at my grandparent’s home. So it was great to see someone else talking about them.

Poor Girl Eats Well
This blog is written for those who can’t always afford the best, but still expect the best. Ideas for how to stretch your dollar and make “good for you meals” and how to find great deals at the grocery store. With the way the world is these days, I think everyone is trying to cut down on big spending, and blogs like this are great places to get ideas on being resourceful when it comes to food. Don’t miss her post on Sweet and Fruity White Wine Sangria. Perfect for that warm weather coming up!

Sou Sou Kitchen
Everyone who is a regular reader of my blog (and THANK YOU) will know of my love for Moroccan food. But being an American, who has not traveled to Morocco, YET, I have not had a chance to experience all the food that makes up this cuisine. So when I came across Sou Sou Kitchen, I was delighted to find a blog that focuses on Moroccan cooking, and also shows a glimpse into the country itself. As Sabah, the author says, “ My country is a land of good, abundant food that’s why a moroccan woman does her own cooking…” . On April 4th, Morocco entered the Guinness Book of World Records, with the dish Tangia a specialty of the red city Marrakesh. Check out her post telling that story and all the events surrounding it.

Richmond Food Collective
Everyone knows how much I love eating local and my interests in sustainable living. So I really do enjoy blogs that focus on these topics, and this is one of them. From their about page: “We believe that food can change the world, and indeed, that there is no more blissful, celebratory way to go about doing so.Check out how to make natural dyes for Easter Eggs.

Food Salon

This is a blog about a foodie who is always full in the stomach and empty in the wallet. Sounds like a lot of us doesn’t it?! There are lots of wonderful dessert recipes being featured as of late, but the post that really caught my eye was for gnocchi. I had some amazing gnocchi in Tuscany, and this is certainly a dish I would like to re-create soon. Thanks for the reminder Diana!

Pickle Freak
I certainly am one, so when I came across this blog I got post in reading. It is not only full of pickles, but also hearty doses of humor. There are just so many pickles and I need to get eating them! So many pickles, so little time. I really hope to make her list of “Other Freaks” she admires. :)

My Fabulous Recipes
This is a blog full of family favorites, from appetizers to desserts and everything in between. All of these recipes have been approved by the blogger’s family, as the not so successful recipes are not posted on the blog! Be sure to check out those Korean Wontons!

Green Dog Wine

This is a fun blog written by Allison and her blog chronicles all the things she loves – food, eating, running, wine, dogs, and the color green!  She is quite a fitness buff and very much into healthy eating. There are a lot of product reviews on her blog as well, which is always a good thing. But I must admit, I stop by to look at all the cute animals! :)

That’s it for this week! I hope you enjoyed this week’s FFF. Remember, if you would like to see a blog featured here, who is part of the FBR please visit the forum and nominate them.
