You write weekly and sometimes bi-weekly and you know your family is subscribed but you wonder who else? Is anyone really reading. I sometimes think Feedburner doesn't know who I am cause today I know it isn't keeping a very good track of my readers.
For the very first time I received a comment from an actual stranger: A READER.. I almost can't contain my smile. Plus I got a private email from a reader who I know from another blogger: The Feedbag.
Isn't this just the greatest feeling for a new blogger and I would love to hear from others and their experience on The Very First Comment

I haven't had my blog that long. Like everyone else, I had mainly friends and family that would "comment" to me when they'd see me about the blog. It wasn't until I signed up with foodieblogroll that I got my first comments! I was so happy, and I get excited every time I get a new one. My blog chronicles the dishes that my boyfriend and I make, and each time we get a comment, I immediately tell him! I feel kind of dorky, but I can't help it! It is nice when you get your first few comments, from those who don't know you! Gives you the feeling of accomplishment and that actually people are stopping in and enjoying your blog I had trouble getting into your site...from what you posted and I trouble leaving a post on your site. lol Maybe it's just me! Anyways...good luck with your blog...and happy food posting Jackie

I know! It gives 'don't speak to strangers' a COMPLETELY new meaning!
My first stranger encounter happened a little over a month after I had started my blog. It was a comment from a blogger on NaBloPoMo; I think I commented on her blog and she returned the favor. But my first random stranger encounter was a few weeks later and I can't tell you how much I hurt myself doing the happy dance. Blog on! Anamaris

You really do feel that your posting "out there" and maybe no ones sees you. That first comment just blows you away. Somebody actually read your blog. It's very close to when I started getting phone calls from folks who were using my cookbook and would actually Google me to find my phone number. Said it's like actually having you in their kitchen while they're trying out the recipes and we've become 'virtual' friends! Even though I use a solar oven whenever God chooses to give me a sunny day, all my recipes work equally as well in a standard oven.
I hadn't really thought of it from that viewpoint until I started using recipes on the blogs I've found on BlogRoll. When you're sharing comments with folks and then try their recipes, you really do feel that the author is standing right next to you while you're following their recipes. (Kind of scary, like Mom's still looking over your shoulder!) You don't want to mess up and disappoint them.
But, it is exciting, so thank you to everyone who's popped by my little blog. Hope you decide to follow or at least continue to comment!

I completely agree! It was so thrilling to get a comment from someone besides a handful of friends and family who would occasionally throw us a bone with some pity comments, essentially, at first.

Oh my - my sides are aching from your post!
It's funny reading it now but there have been times when I felt so low and I know exactly that feeling of posting out to no-man's land and wondering like, "If I post this but no one reads it and comments.....am I really posting? " oh my!
Sadly, I haven't gone beyond the "pity posts" of friends and family *sigh* but remain hopeful and am faithfully posting.

I second that emotion! So far, comments have been friends and family only - and that's a small group! But bless them for their support! Marion Blog: http://wordsandweigh.blogspot.com/
