Hi everyone! I'm taking the chance! I'm crazy about mushrooms, I don't like cheese, though (I know it's hard to believe... but I can't stand it - just light and smooth ones).
I'm sooooo excited! This is my first Joust. Getting my tools sharpened!!!!! Grin
Fun, fun, fun

Hi everyone- thanks to all who voted, and I tried to pick ingredients that would have us making something savory this time 'round.  Crazy shaped wild mushrooms (especially this time of year) and stinky cheese (the stinkier the better) are two of my favorite foods, so I thought I'd throw in some herbs and call it a combo! It's going to be fun to see all of the entries, being that the varieties of these ingredients is open for interpritation.
I had one question for all of you- this was my first joust, and it looks like the winners have been bowing out of participation when it comes time for the event using the ingredients of their choice....but not always.
Is there a general unwritten rule that the polite thing to do is not participate when you've won the month before?
How do we all feel about this? I'd love to hear from all of you- let's talk about it!  Smiley
I still have not decided if I will be joining in this month or not, but it is tempting, if only because I want to eat it!!! Some fellow voices on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Happy mushroom hunting Wink

Ooh, this is exciting! I don't like mushrooms (it's a texture thing), but my fiance LOVES them, so this is a great chance for me to practise cooking with them. Oh, and I just picked up an issue of Cooking Light at the store earlier today, and to my surprise (and good fortune) they have a huge section on mushrooms!! So, watch out everyone- I'm well-informed and ready for a challenge! Wink

Congratulations!
I didn't compete the month after I won and picked the ingredients- but I really don't have a problem with anyone else doing it.  I just thought it "felt" wrong- do you know what I mean?
How stinky does the cheese have to be??  I love wild mushrooms and am trying to think of a recipe.  I'm not sure what even counts as stinky!!

Thanks for your thoughts Jenn, and yes I know exactly what you mean. It does just kind of feel wrong.
The cheese can be whatever you want it to be, so long as it's cheese. Non-stinkers like cheddar, fontina, and brie are fine- as is the stankiest of stinkies like feta, roquefort, and stilton. Sheep, cow, or goat---hard or soft, it's up to you!
Have fun- can't wait to see what you come up with!

Ohh, congratulations!! I hate mushrooms (like Ley said, it's a texture thing... they remind me of slugs) but I will try to tough it out and create something truly wow-worthy.

About the participations etiquette, I don't really see a problem with competing during the same month that you won and chose the ingredients, but it's really not up to me. I don't think it's a big deal, but I can see where you're coming from, it's kind of polite to step aside and let the others/new guys duke it out for a month.

I didn't compete either.  It seems to me to take unfair advantage since you generally gravitate toward ingredients you are interested in anyway...
Nice choice! I think I have mine planned..... Grin

Dharm, I was thinking of you and all of the other foodies in different areas of the world when I came up w/these ingredients. I would think that even if you can't find fresh 'shrooms, you could at least find 'em dried. Glad you're back in action!

Mehgan- even though you don't like mushrooms, I know you're a Northwest girl and we have a pretty incredible selection of the wild ones available right now...maybe you'll be able to find someting you'll like...does the hubby like them?

I will be watching from the sidelines for this joust- as marye pointed out, it's not much of a challenge when you are working with ingredients that you love and eat regularly. I am sooo excited to see what you all come up with!  Grin

Hi All!

Thanks for bringing up thet participation thing Brittany.

Personally I don't care if you participate the same month you won. I think it is fine. I think it is great.

For me, since the event is my creation, I often participate, but I don't put myself in the voting poll. So I would say for those of you who have won the joust, if you want to participate and do the challenge with your ingredients but don't feel "right" about it, just ask me not to put you in the poll and I will be happy to oblige.

Hola everyone! You all sound soooo profesional here, with all these joust awards... I feel a bit small  Undecided! Anyway, my question is: Are these three ingredients the main ones in the recipe? The only ones? Or can I use other ingredients as the main ones?
Thanks for your help!

I think Jenn would need to weigh in on this one, as she created the joust. But it seems to me that as long as all 3 ingredients are used, then they don't necessarily need to be the stars of the dish...HuhHuhHuh?? What do you all think?

As someone who has been around since the first joust, I think the rules were simply that you HAD to use ALL 3 ingredients in ONE dish but you could add in as many ingredients as you wanted.  So for example, you could make a .... hehehehehe Didnt think I was going to give away my planned dish did you??!!!  Smiley

Seriously, based on the previous entries, you just need to make sure you use the specied 3 ingredients.  You can add anything else to make a dish.
