Well, I do love aprons.  Wink

But yeah, I just want to diffuse this and am even deleting my post from the entry thread. I did challenge myself and came up with a tasty new dish that I'd never made before! So I guess I am a winner after all. (okay, that was really cheesy - sorry!)

It is kind of sad but, on the other hand, asking your blog friends to participate by voting for you has brought some nice attention to the site.  I had my sister (who is an incredible cook) come look here and at Voodoolily's blog site and she's found some real inspiration, as have I. I'm actually planning to use Protos' rub on my lamb chops this weekend.  She's going nuts and making the pear galette on Voodoolily's site.   Shocked

STOP THE MADNESS!!!

No one is bowing out! I mean, please no one bow out. I have gotten an email from Siri asking to be taken out of the competition and now Heather has deledted her entry! STOP, please.

I must be hormonal today - given my rant on my blog and now telling people what to do over here. But here is MY story and I implore you to please listen.

I love foodies, I love my blog and this competition that is so important to me and a great tool for commuity building. Now, because of a simple misunderstanding, it is having all sorts of negativity cast upon it, and by proxy onto me.

This is event is getting bigger. And the bigger an event gets, the more important it is to revist the rules to make sure I am not missing anything. However, it has become clear that I need to make the rules clearer to avoid all of this in the future.

This whole week I have been encouraging people to tell their readers to vote for them. I figured it is two fold - get more buzz out about the Joust, in turn, get a lot more foodies over to the forum, get to intrigued enough to sign up, bigger community of foodies, more viewpoints and insights, easy! What I did not forsee was people taking that vague statement "go out and encourage people to vote for you" and basically getting random people with no intention or real interest in the forum itself nor the competition, just interest in seeing their friend win, to sign up just to vote.

I could not have forseen this, and you all did not know what my intention was when I said what I said. So like I said, it was a MISUNDERSTANDING. It happens. This is in fact a learning experience. It is okay that this time things got a little screwy.

So in the future the rules will be modified as such:

1) Voting will be allowed only for forum Members that have at least 1 post and have been registered for at least 1 week.
2) Only 1 vote per IP. No ifs ands or buts.

This joust is meant to encourage people to think outside the box and get creative with food. The competition should be a peer judged event - ie Foodies judging Foodies. Voters would hopefully review all the recipes and see all the hard work that goes into each dish and decide after being informed who has the best dish - who exceeded themselves and their previous limitations. That is what this competition is all about.

So I ask, since none of this was clear before that we all chalk this up to a misunderstanding and everyone stay in the competition and lets put this behind us!

HEATHER: will you pretty please with duck fat on top, repost your entry?
SIRI: Will you stay in the competition?

let the comments fly!

Firstly, I think it's important to acknowledge that indeed a great amount of effort and good intentions have been put into making this event available - so kudos to the queen.  I believe the "what happened" in this event is irrelevant to the "go forward" rules that make total sense to me.

The learning is that we are a competitive group and the prize really isn't as important as the self satisfying sense of pride one realizes with a job well done.  We all like the acknowledgement - we wouldn't be doing this if we didn't.

A jury of one's peers is the most reasonable approach and encourages those who are already committed to being foodies and the blogging world.

Let cooler heads prevail.

Also,  I would be sure to be back with an entry for the next viable Joust , with full vigour and with new rules in place - since then No one will have complains and UNWANTED MISUNDERSTANDING.  Roll Eyes

Thanks for all your support and understanding. I appreciate your confidence in me.. Smiley

I do think there's some positive to be gained. I added the site to my list of food sites and will visit here for ideas and eventually to post  my own. I'm sure a few others will do the same.

Everyone did a fantastic job both of creatively implementing Dharm's ingredients, but of promoting the Leftover Queen and the RFJ. I know my win is a bit clouded by all the weirdness that happened, but I hope you will enjoy the ingredients that I've chosen to make up for it.  Smiley

Congrats to my co-winners SuperChef and Protos. I am adding them both to the sidebar of my blog. It is literally the least I can do.
