Sweet Heart Purse: Greek styled lean ground beef heart, kohlrabi ribbons, organic fresh plum cubes, and sweet onion jam wrapped in vegan phyllo pastry. The recipe is relatively simple compared to what I made last time. http://bumblelog.blogspot.com/2010/02/dinner-almost-impossible-sweet-heart.htmlUnfortunately, this will be the last red-meat contest dish I will be making. My family wish to cut down our consumption of red meat.

Wow, Christine, what a great recipe. Definitely going to try this one. Isn't is delicious!? Sorry about the change of diet, but don't give it up entirely, just really reduce the intake. You can make this, again and again. Doesn't every woman want a new purse!

Unique and over the top ingredients. I have no luck finding both Kohlrabi and beef heart in my place. I have never tried cooking with these, so wished to be a part of this joust. Anyway, If I get lucky and get hold of these, will come up with a dish, else will be drooling at others dishes, lol. Good luck guys!

Thanks for the comments. It has been a lot of fun preparing these ingredients. It's nice to rediscover kohlrabi again, bringing back all the childhood memory at my grandparents' farmhouse. Now, kohlrabi is a stable in our diet. My family loves it. Huge thanks to Oldsage for introducing it for the contest.

Hi All,
Since there were only 3 entrees, we are not going to run the Joust polls this month. We are also going to take a hiatus, and we will re-start the Joust over on The Foodie Blogroll website in a few months.
Thanks to all of you who have been regular participants all these years, and many thank to those who have just recently joined us. I hope you all will join us over on the website when we are up and running again!
Thanks! Jenn

The entries for this competition were great. Royal Joust is a great cooking challenge whereby we get to revolve our dish around 3 basic ingredients. However, this time the response was very less. The chief reason for this is the difficulty of ingredients. If the ingredients get very specific, they are hard to find. Even otherwise, the participants might not be able to find any substitutes for the ingredients. I would request the winners to provide interesting ingredients but those which more people use in their kitchen if not regularly, then periodically.

That is a great suggestion recipesbysam. I love the creative choices that everyone comes up with, but choosing more accessible ingredients definitely bring more competition!

Bingo!! One of the reasons I didn't participate this time around was the choice of ingredients, sorry to say.. the Joust is somethng wonderful to be involved in when all the ingredients as accessible no matter where you are in the world... being down in Australia I struggle with some ingredients due to the seasons being opposite and honestly don't mind paying more for ingredients etc that are out of season but when the ingredients are too "exotic" or "non-mainstream" it makes it very hard.
I have really enjoyed the Royal Foodie Joust and don't want it to cease.... is there anyway you will reconsider?
Jo

I'm with Sam too! I think he just made THE POINT here. I'm willing to participate each month but hard and too exotic ingredients discourage me.

Thanks everyone for your replies. It really helps. For me, I do enjoy seeing what people come up with, when they have more exotic ingredients. Especially when it is something most people are not used to working with - I love that about the Joust. But I do understand that we really need to make some guidelines for choosing ingredients.
Have NO FEAR, the Joust will be back. It is not going away. We really want to expose it to more people, and we think the way to do that is moving it over to The Foodie Blogroll website. We are going to be adding some awesome new features over there in the coming months, which will make all the logistics for running the Joust easier too.
Plus, the forum software that we have been using here, has a lot of bugs. For example, I still can't upload a new avatar photo...so we want to move everything over the The Foodie Blogroll website so that we have more control over it, and can fix problems when they occur - since Roberto developed the whole thing! Unlike the software we use for the forum here now, which is free, and therefore, not the best when it comes to customization.
However, I will think about bringing the Joust back to this forum temporarily if plans for the website don't come together as fast as we think they will, which is possible, since we are getting ready for a very big move in April, and this summer is going to be crazy. So I will definitely reconsider. We will bring the Joust back in May, whether on this forum, or on The Foodie Blogroll website. But we will take at least a month off in general to get more ideas together for how we can make it better, and we appreciate your suggestions. Please feel free to list your ideas and suggestions for how we can make it better when we re-launch it on the Foodie Blogroll website!
Best, Jenn
