After reading Sarah's post about washing microplaners, I feel I should ask.....

How do you wash your sieve/colander/strainer?

The colander and strainer isn't so bad, but i often find little bits of remnant flour or whatever on my sieve, after a few washes.

Any hints or tips?

(Oh how I dream of a dishwasher!)

Collanders are fine, but with the sieve Don't put it in the sink with the rest of the washing up!  I turn it upside down and run it fast under a hot tap to get all the bits out, then turn it over and do the same on the other side.  Then wipe it off with a soapy cloth, rinse again, and done!

I do the same as Ryan, except instead of a soapy cloth, I use a brush. I hold the inside with my other hand, so the pressure of the brush doesn't break through the mesh.

yup, I go with the turn upside down, a quick 'bang' to get rid of any remaining bits then run (upside down) under running water then in clean soapy water.

After you strain through ur sieve/colander/strainer, WASH IT IMMEDIATELY, I do exactly the way Fiona had mentioned, give it a good tap on the sink, upside down and wash under running water. If you keep it for long time unwashed, then all the stuffs on that hardens and gets difficult to wash. In that case, soak in soapy water for few minutes and wash it.

The trick is to wash it immediately after use. If that isn't possible then immerse it in water so that the residue doesn't get dry and stuck.

as suggested by few others..now you just need to tap it upside down...rub it with a brush...and voila ...you will have it all clean
