Our last book pick for Cook the Books was Peter Mayle's "French Lessons: Adventures with Knife, Fork and Corkscrew" and the winning blog post was by Claudia of Honey from Rock.  She's now our first two-time winner, and she wowed us all with her Omelette aux Truffes and her bookish musings.  Congratulations Claudia!

The next book selection for Cook the Books is Anik See's travel memoir, "A Taste for Adventure: A Culinary Odyssey Around the World".  Ms. See will also serve as our guest judge, so we are excited about that.  I am the current hostess for this round of Cook the Books and you can participate by sending in entries until January 22, 2010.  Check out the Cook the Books blog for more details: http://cookthebooksclub.wordpress.com.

I hope you'll stop by and check out our foodie book club.  We welcome anyone who wants to dive in.  All you need to do is buy or borrow a copy of our book selection, and then blog up your thoughts about the book and some thing delicious you cooked up that was inspired by your reading.  Sound fun!

May I recommend you check out Michael Symon's new book Live to Cook (http://www.amazon.com/Michael-Symons-Live-Cook-Techniques/dp/0307453650). It is a great book and is much more than your typical cookbook filled with recipes. He provides lots of great information on how to improve your technique, tips around the kitchen, and stories from his past both related to his family as well as how he built his growing empire.

On my blog www.livetocookathome.com, I will be cooking my way through the cookbook and documenting it along the way. I'm just getting started and so far I've made some amazing fried Brussels sprouts (http://www.livetocookathome.com/2009/12/fried-brussels-sprouts-with-walnuts-and.html) and a shrimp dish in an amazing dill vinaigrette that would have been a lot better if I had access to fresher shrimp or if I wouldn't have over cooked them (http://www.livetocookathome.com/2009/12/shrimp-with-dill-vinaigrette.html). There are tons and tons of other great recipes to come. I hope you'll consider adding me to your RSS feed!

The Cook the Books club read Nigel Slater's "Eating for England", a great collection of funny culinary mini-essays and we all read, blogged, and cooked up our takes on this universally-enjoyed book selection.  Foodycat was our guest judge and picked Joanne of Eats Well With Other's post about Chicken Tikka Masala, thus winning the coveted Cook the Books winner's badge for her blog.

Up next is the novel "The School of Essential Ingredients" by Erica Bauermeister.  Yours truly, The Crispy Cook, is the current hostess for this round of Cook the Books and anyone can participate by sending in entries until July 30, 2010.  Check out the Cook the Books blog for more details: http://cookthebooksclub.wordpress.com.  Our esteemed author herself will be joining us to serve as the guest judge for this round.
